Pollen

Pollen is the sperm of flowers, their male molecule. They are tiny seeds that the bee collects as it sinks and rubs into the flowers and the seeds are hooked onto its hair. Thanks to the brushes and combs on her hind legs, she collects these seeds and then, with a mixture of saliva and honey, prepares small balls which she places to be transported to the canisters, two pockets on her hind legs.

On the Mediterranean coast bees collect pollen all year round, however the period of large collection is in April and May. At this time our apiary is located in the semi-mountainous area of Movri in Achaia, for the development of our bee colonies, but also the production of ΄΄Spring Honey΄΄. At the same time, when the cyst begins to bloom (ladania), pollen traps are placed in selected bee colonies for pollen collection.

The pollen collected from us comes mainly from the flowers of the cyst, which is why the orange color prevails and its taste is slightly sweet as it leaves an aftertaste of raw fresh herbs and flowers. Cyst is an aromatic shrub and is considered the most antioxidant plant in Europe. It is very rich in polyphenols (vitamin P).

In general, its composition includes vitamins (mainly folic acid, B vitamins and provitamin A), trace elements such as selenium and iron as well as a variety of antioxidants including flavonoids, carotenoids, quercetin and gluten. The selenium content of pollen in particular is very high, since 1 tablespoon (approximately 12.5% gr) yields 500% more selenium than the recommended daily dose. Pollen is especially famous for its high content of proteins and amino acids. Typically, in the same amount, pollen provides more protein and amino acids to the body than beef, eggs and cheese.

The therapeutic action of pollen is addressed to all systems, but is particularly suitable for fatigue conditions, gastrointestinal problems (anorexia, constipation, colitis, etc.), genitourinary problems (prostatitis, colibacillosis), as well as for the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

The recommended dosage is one to two tablespoons a day. Here we must note that the results will be felt after a few weeks of treatment and depending on the physical condition of each person.

BEE4U  has and recommends the consumption of fresh frozen pollen, because this way its sensitive and valuable ingredients are kept unchanged for many months. In contrast, dried pollen, treated in dry and heated air, loses a large percentage of its nutritional value.
